Health Service Delivery

Problems of quality, equity, and efficiency are critical issues that JSI addresses to improve the health services delivered to people.

JSI uses a collaborative, multi-step approach to strengthen health services, whether for a national system or a community health post staffed by volunteers. Working with local stakeholders we assess the existing health system, with a particular focus on how programs are managed and the scope and quality of services. This participatory and collaborative process allows us to jointly determine priorities, and develop technical strategies to meet the goals of our partners and the needs of the population. This is done by identifying service delivery gaps, and strengthening through training, mentoring, targeted technical assistance and health systems improvement, renovation, medical equipment and financial support and to also set realistic performance goals.

Through collaboration with health care leaders in each country, JSI staff have improved the capability of public health mangers to plan, implement, and monitor public health interventions in a critical areas including supply chain, health information systems, routine monitoring and evaluation, health care financing and human resource mobilization and support. By fostering the creation of effective leaders we assist communities and national governments better meet the urgent health needs of their most vulnerable citizens.

To ensure the effectiveness of the interventions, we support efforts to improve data collection and use of information for decision-making throughout the life cycle of the project. Thirty-five years of experience has demonstrated in over 80 countries that JSI’s approach contributes to community led, sustainable programs.
