JSI’s PHE work in Madagascar began in 1999 with the USAID-funded Jereo Salama Isika ("Look, We Are Healthy") Project, which was designed to assist the Ministry of Health and its NGO partners in decentralizing health care, improving the quality of services, and encouraging local communities to be responsible for their own health.
JSI’s dedication to PHE continues through the PHE Integration Activity in Madagascar, a one-year USAID-funded initiative implemented by JSI under Mahefa Miaraka. The activity is based on the concept that integrated PHE programs can achieve greater results than vertical programs by increasing community buy-in, reinforcing messages, and simultaneously overcoming multiple development challenges and behavioral changes across multiple sectors.
