The USAID-funded Building Healthy Cities (BHC) project aims to increase the understanding of the best routes for improving the social determinants of health in urban contexts. In its first year, BHC conducted several exploratory data collection activities in two "Smart Cities" to inform the project's approach. The resulting data is intended to be used by city stakeholders to define barriers to implementation, unintended consequences, and key leverage points to improve urban health.
This report details the findings of one data collection initiative – the Indore Data Use and Access Assessment – conducted in 2018. The assessment was done in the "Smart City" of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, where BHC is a partner with Indore Smart City Development Limited. The assessment goals were to understand current access to and use of data and information and communications technology in the city. The findings were used to inform BHC's more detailed city workplans relating to data system interoperability and citizen reporting systems. JSI/Building Healthy Cities Project. 2018.
