The HCDExchange advances locally led, human-centered design and public health (HCD+Public Health) in Africa and Asia. We do this by increasing access to and use of HCD resources, knowledge, and expertise in public health programming and promoting design localization.
Established in 2020, the HCDExchange has been working to define, strengthen, and build a robust, efficient, equitable, and transparent HCD+Public Health field through localization, workforce development, and user-driven health solutions. This involves raising awareness, strengthening capacity, increasing engagement, and disseminating evidence, learning, and tools to expand and enhance HCD in public health programming. To achieve this, offer:
Technical assistance to strengthen organizational capacity and expertise to integrate HCD into programs. Drawing upon complementary approaches such as social behavior change, we support in-country programs, research, and learning.
A career portal for HCD designers across these continents to establish and advance their careers and for current health implementers to identify local HCD talent.
A knowledge hub with over 1,500 members in 75 countries that offers virtual convenings, monthly webinars, and skill-building workshops. It includes an online discussion forum, learning circles, and a resource library with evidence on the practice and value of HCD in public health.
In January 2024, the HCDExchange became part of JSI’s Behavior Initiative, a group of more than 90 experts in 18 countries advancing our SBC work.
