Global Nutrition Project Strengthens Local Capacity to Reduce Malnutrition
March 10th, 2023 | news
Countries worldwide faced tremendous challenges this past year as a result of conflict, climate change, and COVID-19, which thwarted progress in reducing hunger, food security, and malnutrition. However, the global nutrition community is finding ways to overcome those challenges. The JSI-led USAID Advancing Nutrition project continues to strengthen locally led nutrition programming and bolster coordination and collaboration to reduce malnutrition, as reported in its Project Year 4 Summary.
Among those efforts, the USAID Advancing Nutrition consortium facilitated high-level consultations to translate policy into action, established a multi-sectoral nutrition surveillance network in East Africa, and held program design workshops with local nutrition leaders. These activities have helped the project expand its portfolio to advance global nutrition efforts despite the current challenges.
Highlights from Year 4 include capacity strengthening through training and technical assistance to over 370 organizations around the world to design, implement, and monitor nutrition programs. The project also trained more than 8,700 people to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate nutrition programming. The project website, with thousands of nutrition-related technical resources and tools accessed by over 60,000 people last year alone, is USAID’s global knowledge management platform.
We strive to build lasting relationships to produce better health outcomes for all.
