SUMMARY

In Rajkot, India the Asia Resilient Cities (ARC) Project partners with the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, the Mayor’s Office, and Rajkot residents to address cross-cutting urban development challenges. The USAID-funded project promotes sustainable urban growth; supports resilient, low-carbon urban infrastructure; and integrates climate change and environmental considerations into urban approaches. ARC also connects city residents, governments, and other stakeholders to create relationships that will continue past the end of this project.

ARC in Rajkot is implemented by John Snow India Private Limited (JSIPL). Rajkot is the fourth largest city of Gujarat State in India, and is one of the State’s prime commercial and industrial centers. The city, which sits along the western coast of India, is home to almost 2 million people. Rajkot is part of India’s Smart City Mission. In recent years the city has faced an increase in the frequency and intensity of heat waves, with temperatures as high as 45 °C in the summer.

For more information, visit ARC's main project page or contact Pallavi Gupta, ARC Project Director, at pallavi_gupta@jsi.com.

ARC is a five-year cooperative agreement funded by USAID under Agreement No. 7200AA22CA00011, beginning September 23, 2022. ARC is implemented by JSI with partners BRAC, DevTech Systems, Inc., ICF, John Snow India Private Limited, and The Asia Foundation. This product is made possible by the generous support of the American people through USAID. The contents are the responsibility of ARC and do not necessarily reflect the views of USAID or the U.S. Government.
