Addressing the Global Climate Crisis and Environmental Disasters

Climate change, environmental degradation, and biodiversity loss are among our planet’s most dire crises. They stem from and exacerbate the same global injustices that we aim to address in our public health and education work: colonialism, systemic racism, economies that aggravate environmental and human harms, and the exclusion of those most affected by these crises from participating in leading solutions.

We are committed to addressing the global climate crisis and environmental disasters through our work in public health and education. Our commitment is grounded in guiding principles centered on advancing equity, engaging youth and communities, integrating environment and climate considerations into our intervention approaches, and leading with high-quality data that resonates with all involved.

We recognize that achieving and sustaining improved education and health requires an unwavering commitment to supporting community-led strategies for mitigation, adaptation, and resilience that prevent and minimize the consequences of disastrous events and dangerous new “normals.” It is vital that we prepare our systems, institutions, and community leaders and residents by prioritizing the identification and reduction of risks, particularly for the people most disproportionately affected, as we work to advance racial equity and improve education, health, and wellbeing.
