Ensuring Effective Immunization Supply Chains and Logistics
Successful immunization service depends on an appropriate supply of vaccines, skilled health care providers, and a well-functioning cold chain and logistics system. Immunization supply chains are essential for ensuring access to vaccines that prevent disease and protect the health of individuals, families, and communities.
We work with local governments and global partners to create and manage efficient supply chains that enable the safe delivery and storage of vaccines in all settings—from busy cities with abundant resources to remote rural areas with limited transportation and technology. We support immunization programs to 1) improve supply chain management and distribution systems, 2) plan cold chain equipment expansion plans, 3) support and improve cold chain maintenance systems, and 4) drive temperature monitoring to improve uptime.
Our support has helped countries respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, adapt supply chains to respond to current or future disruptions, introduce new vaccines, and strengthen supply chain management systems.
Project in Focus
BMGF Immunization Collaborative Supply Planning Strengthening (ICSPS) Project
The Immunization Collaborative Supply Planning Strengthening (ICSPS) project strengthens the capacity and agency of four countries to apply evidence-based forecasting and supply planning (FSP) decisions. The project also applies alternative FSP approaches and test improvements in vaccine supply and access.
ICSPS will engage with immunization programs and partners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, Mozambique and Nigeria and apply lessons learned from VCSP to strengthen current routine immunization data systems and data analysis to provide insights for more agile and responsive vaccine supply decisions, particularly around the timing and quantity of needed shipments.
