Effect of electronic records on mortality among patients in hospital and primary healthcare settings: a systematic review and meta-analyses

A meta-analysis examining the relationship between electronic medical records and mortality was published by our USAID-funded Digital Health Activity team in Frontiers in Digital Health. The systemic review found, despite some heterogeneity in the 42 studies included, that implementation of electronic records resulted in a statistically significant reduction in mortality in inpatient, specialized and intensive care units, and primary healthcare facilities seems to result in a statistically significant reduction in mortality, though maturity level and specific features play critical roles.
