On October 18, 2018, JSI hosted Peter Sands, executive director of the Global Fund, for a site visit in Addis Ababa. Joined by State Minister of Health Kebede Worku, and other high Global Fund officials, Mr. Sands visited a family member who benefited from the family health team approach supported by JSI’s Strengthening Ethiopia’s Urban Health Program (SEUHP). He also visited a Woreda 6 health center and spoke with health workers, patients, and community members. Mr. Sands called the visit “marvelous.
Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), SEUHP is an urban health program focused on overcoming challenges related to rapid urbanization. SEUHP promotes urban health leadership and works with the Federal Ministry of Health to provide capacity-building support in cities and towns across seven regions in Ethiopia.
SEUHP extends the commitment of the previous USAID/Urban Health Extension Program, providing the Government of Ethiopia, civil society partners, and urban communities with cost-effective, high-quality, targeted support and services. SEUHP’s strategies are aligned with PEPFAR’s goal of an AIDS-free Ethiopia.
SEUHP also focuses on strengthening the critical pillars of public health: human resources for health, evidence-based approaches, quality improvement, data analysis and use, community engagement, leadership, and management, more efficent commodities and supply distribution.
We strive to build lasting relationships to produce better health outcomes for all.
