Improving Services and Behaviors that Impact Community Health

A person’s health is influenced by a complex mix of social determinants including housing, environment, nutrition, economic status, employment, education, and more. Each of these factors must be considered to reduce disparities and improve the health and well-being of all.

Climate change also perpetuates global inequities, disproportionately affecting populations already disadvantaged by social and economic injustice. Environmental health and sustainability are closely tied to public health and education.

Building on our successful U.S. healthy communities portfolio, we now design global initiatives that integrate policy, systems, and environmental changes through wide-ranging projects that promote health and work to prevent disease where people live, learn, work, and play. Our approaches are equity-based, building from the knowledge, assets, and leadership of those populations who are most likely to be impacted in their communities.

We collaborate with government agencies at all levels, community groups, and individuals to drive initiatives that focus on the broader health needs of communities. Our approach is to build coalitions across sectors and bring a public health perspective to projects outside the sector.
