SUMMARY

Through funding from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, JSI is supporting the preparations and/or national introduction of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine in Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Malawi. HPV is linked to cervical cancer and vaccination efforts focus on reaching pre-adolescent/adolescent girls (i.e. between 9-14 years old). JSI, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Expanded Program on Immunization, Gavi, WHO, UNICEF and other partners, is providing targeted technical assistance to HPV vaccine introduction efforts based on the needs and introduction status of each country.

JSI's technical staff in each country are supporting activities such as integration of the HPV vaccine into the country plans, partner coordination and engagement, and communication and social mobilization. JSI will also provide technical assistance with training and capacity building of health care workers, analysis of HPV vaccine delivery and cold chain/logistics readiness, and supportive supervision and monitoring during and post-introduction.

JSI has more than 30 years experience in immunization and has supported 75 new vaccine introductions in 24 countries.
