At the 2018 National Asthma Control Program Grantee Meeting, the CDC awarded the Massachusetts Asthma Program for best evaluation presentation and awarded the Vermont Asthma Program bronze for best overall evaluation practice. JSI is a proud partner of these programs and provides comprehensive evaluation services to both.

Vermont has one of the highest prevalence of asthma in the U.S.—10% for adults and 8% for children.

In 2010, MDPH chose JSI to assist in conducting evaluation activities for the Massachusetts Asthma Prevention and Control Program (APCP). JSI collaborated closely with APCP and stakeholders throughout the evaluation process to ensure an utilization-focused evaluation that follows the framework outlined in the CDC Learning and Growing through Evaluation: State Asthma Program Evaluation Guide. Under this grant, JSI provides evaluation support to community and health care organizations that implement asthma initiatives under health care reform, strengthening community health worker training programs, and assessing standardized asthma home-based visit protocols.

The Vermont Asthma Program was created to help eliminate disparities caused by asthma and improve the health and quality of life of all Vermonters affected by asthma. Since 2010, the Vermont Department of Health has worked with JSI to provide evaluation and technical assistance services to the program. As the evaluator, JSI uses a collaborative approach to plan and conduct program and strategy-level evaluation activities used to assess feasibility, demonstrate impact, and inform continuous program improvement.
