JSI joins the community health worker symposium to advance community health programs and build a resilient, responsive, and equitable health system

From March 20 through March 24, JSI will join government delegations, civil service organizations, development partners, and community health workers to discuss ways to scale and sustain community health programs at the Community Health Worker (CHW) Symposium in Monrovia, Liberia. Our delegation will give 14 abstract-driven presentations, be panelists on important concurrent sessions, and co-lead a plenary session, all focused on how we can advance one of the most important cadres in public health: the community health workforce.

JSI’s presentations will cover areas such as digitally enabled performance-based management and incentives for CHWs; data use to measure CHW efficacy; and helping CHWs improve access to high-quality reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health services. These presentations, below, will cover our work in DRC, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, and Yemen.

  • On Wednesday March 22 from 12:00 to 13:30, Stephanie Watson-Grant, deputy project director for the USAID-funded Country Health Information Systems and Data Use (CHISU) program at JSI, will present at the daily plenary session on measuring performance for CHW programs.
  • On Thursday, March 23 from 16:00 to 17:30, Dessalew Emaway, project director of JSI-Ethiopia’s Electronic Community Health Information Systems and the Improve Primary Health Care Service Delivery projects, will be a panelist at a session on Digital Ecosystems.
  • On Friday, March 24 from 10:30 to 12:00, JSI-Uganda’s Stella Abonyo will be a panelist at the No stuff, no service: How can we supply, equip and protect CHWs to deliver health for all? session, focused on strengthening last-mile supply chains for health.

Come find us at these sessions and more as we learn how to create a community-responsive and equitable health system for the people we aim to serve.
