Steve Schaffer has 24 years of experience mapping health data at the state level, including health facility inventories combining data from multiple state, federal, and survey-based sources. His health systems-related focus has been on the analysis and methods for provider accessibility and creating rational service areas. Steve examines patient accessibility through insurance claims data using a network-based analysis that results in the mapping of dominant origin-destination pairs. He has developed unique geovisualizations, including animations that highlight gaps and underserved areas and has developed interactive web mapping applications, using ArcGIS online and Google Maps API platforms, for local, state, and national clients. He has a BA in political science and an MS in geospatial analysis from the University of Mary Washington.
