Launching the Global Immunization Agenda 2030
April 26th, 2021 | news
We are proud to support the launch of the Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030), marking a new era for vaccines and immunization. Immunization is the foundation of the world’s health care systems and an indisputable human right. Despite the progress made over the years, equitable access to vaccines remains an issue in many countries, which threatens to undermine past achievements. Within the next 10 years, IA2030 aims to reduce the number of children who have never received a vaccine dose by 50% (as measured by the first dose of DPT containing vaccines), support the introduction of 500 new or under-utilized vaccines across low- and middle-income countries, and achieve 90% coverage for basic childhood vaccines.
COVID-19 has reminded us of the power vaccines have to prevent disease, save lives, and create a healthier, safer, and more prosperous future. JSI staff have been advisors and contributors to the IA2030 advisory group, including leading the multi-expert and geographically diverse technical working group for Strategic Priority #2 on Commitment and Demand. We will continue our support for implementing this strategy for a world where everyone, everywhere – regardless of age, location, and income – can fully benefit from vaccines to avoid 50 million preventable deaths. Our work on immunization creates and strengthens systems that enable people around the world to receive vaccines through locally-driven, sustainable programs to meet a variety of needs. We strive to build lasting relationships to produce better health outcomes for all.
