In collaboration with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), JSI will manage the New York State Family Planning Training Center, which supports New York State Family Planning Program providers to deliver high-quality reproductive health services through training and and technical assistance.

The overarching goals of the New York State Family Planning Program are to increase the proportion of pregnancies that are intended and to improve birth outcomes for high-need women and families while reducing racial, ethnic, and economic disparities in those outcomes. These goals are among the comprehensive set of goals outlined in the New York State Prevention Agenda, the blueprint for state and local action to improve the health of New Yorkers.

Nearly 50 agencies overseeing 170 sites are funded by the New York State Family Planning Program to provide accessible, confidential reproductive health care services to women, men, and adolescents, especially low-income individuals and those without health insurance. Program providers offer access to the full range of contraceptive methods; preconception health services; counseling and testing for HIV; testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections; routine screening for breast and cervical cancer; and health education services.

In 2016, over 300,000 women and men received services through the New York State Family Planning Program, including over 50,000 adolescents. Each year, approximately 70,000 unintended pregnancies, 12,000 teen pregnancies, 25,000 abortions, and 3,000 chlamydia cases are prevented by family Planning Program providers, saving the state over $600M.

JSI draws on decades of reproductive health training and technical assistance experience to support the New York State Family Planning Program. JSI also supports Title X providers through the Family Planning National Training Center, and Maternal and Child Health Bureau-funded programs through the Healthy Start EPIC Center.
