In the early 1990s, JSI implemented its first project in Vietnam, the Basic Support for Institutionalizing Child Survival (BASICS) program, which sought to improve the rate of survival in young children by improving basic nutrition and health care.
More recently, JSI’s projects in Vietnam have focused primarily on HIV prevention. JSI has provided technical assistance and capacity building services to PEPFAR’s Supply Chain Management Systems (SCMS) program, which among other accomplishments, reduced the average cost of antiretroviral treatments and virtually eliminated HIV commodity stockouts. The AIDSTAR-One project also built sustainable HIV prevention programs in country. In addition, JSI provided technical assistance to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control-funded Harvard AIDS Initiative in Vietnam (HAIVN).
Today, JSI is working in the “smart city” of Da Nang to prioritize, plan, and fund urban health activities.
