The year is off to a great start for our Colorado office: Alexia Eslan has been selected to lead a passionate team of public health, health operations, and health policy experts. Alexia succeeds Debbie Olesen, who was the director for the last 20 years.
JSI’s second U.S. office opened in 1982 in Denver to operate a regional family planning project. Since then, it has expanded to a multitude of projects and initiatives throughout the state, region, and nation to strengthen systems to improve health, with a focus on historically and currently marginalized communities and populations.
Alexia hails from Argentina and has more than 20 years experience improving public health and health care services. She began her career at Colorado Access, working with community health centers and other providers to develop strategic plans to optimally serve Medicaid-insured individuals. From there, she worked at Kaiser Permanente, overseeing and evaluating operational processes to improve access to services and patient, staff, and provider wellbeing.
As a Latina immigrant and public health professional, I strive to champion the clients, partners, communities, and individuals we serve, centering those whose health outcomes are predetermined by their race and socioeconomic status. I am very excited to step into the director role and expand our work in public health and health care consulting, regionally and nationally, with such a talented and dedicated team.”
Since joining JSI in 2007, Alexia has been involved in many of our key public health areas, including HIV and STI prevention and treatment, teen pregnancy prevention, and health care transformation, including focusing on models for primary care expansion and improvement through team-based care and coaching.
We strive to build lasting relationships to produce better health outcomes for all.
