New: Supply Chain Management Training

The JSI Center for Health Logistics is excited to invite your organization to participate in a supply chain management training that will be held on May 7-9, 2019.

Goal: This training workshop is intended to build pharmaceutical and medical commodity (PMC) supply chain knowledge in participating organizations and individuals, in order to strengthen the responsiveness and efficiency of humanitarian and disaster relief efforts. This training will impart conceptual knowledge of PMC supply chain management, specific best practices in key logistics areas for humanitarian response, and generate a conversation within a community of practice around long-term improvement efforts.

Objectives:

By the end of this training workshop, participants should be able to:

1. Demonstrate basic background knowledge in supply chain principles through the completion of the e-learning course, review of the new SC Manager’s Handbook Chapter, and completion of a prerequisite exercise.
2.  Assess the supply chain maturity status of their organization and identify potential strategies for improving the status of their supply chain.
3. Explain the main differences between supply chain management in development and humanitarian settings
4. Identify and describe practices, innovations, and tools that are currently being developed through global coordination that can be employed in the early phases of an emergency that will help prepare for managing supplies effectively both during the acute emergency and when/if the emergency extends in the medium or long-term.
5. Describe good practices for product selection and procurement of quality products in an emergency setting from kits to procuring individual products.
6. Describe good quantification practices, including pipeline and lead time monitoring, for kits and individual products in a humanitarian setting.
7. Identify essential logistics data that should be collected from the last mile, intermediate and central points, and the LMIS to support and share these data throughout the supply pipeline and across multiple partners to manage inventory, ensure commodity availability and monitor supply chain performance in a humanitarian setting.
8. Select from best practices for coordinating supply planning across various partners responding to an emergency and describe how they will apply these in their own context.
9. Contribute to mechanisms for developing and maintaining a long-term community of practice around supply chain for humanitarian and disaster relief and leverage this knowledge base for improving relief operations.
10. Present an action plan for implementing one or more supply chain management improvement interventions for their own programs, and for sharing information from the workshop with colleagues to help build their capacity.
