New Video: RAVIN Combats Preventable Childhood Deaths
July 19th, 2021 | news
Rotavirus Accelerated Vaccine Introduction Network (RAVIN) is a partnership between the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC), JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). RAVIN worked with the MOH and key partners to systematically assess, address, and provide technical guidance on how to resolve key barriers in eight focus countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Cambodia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Nepal. RAVIN provided targeted country-specific support through the RVV decision-making process, Gavi application, vaccine introduction preparedness, and in some cases launch of the vaccine. RAVIN also provided technical support, opportunistically, to non-focus countries that are close neighbors or regionally connected to the focus countries, with the aim to accelerate or streamline their RVV introduction.
At the end of its funding, RAVIN successfully supported the introduction of three different presentations of the rotavirus vaccine in Afghanistan, DRC, Benin, and Nepal. RAVIN also supported the preparation for the rotavirus vaccine in Bangladesh and Cambodia which is planning to introduce the vaccine in Q4 of 2021.
