JSI Helps Deliver Pakistan’s First Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccinations
September 21st, 2022 | news
JSI is helping to deliver pediatric COVID-19 vaccinations, donated by the U.S. Government, to children between the ages of 5 and 11. Our USAID Integrative Health Systems Strengthening and Service Delivery Activity (IHSS-SD) launched a vaccination campaign on September 19 in the cities of Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore.
Health workers began immunizing children at the campaign launch events. So far, more than 4.3 million children have been vaccinated. The government of Pakistan, USAID, WHO, UNICEF, and JSI are working together over the next few months to ensure the vaccines continue to reach children across the country. Most of the vaccines will be administered at schools and in homes. An awareness campaign to inform parents of the opportunity to get their children vaccinated and protect their communities is ongoing.
To date, USAID has donated more than 8 million pediatric doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Pakistan and our IHSS-SD Activity has helped roll out the campaign in 14 districts of Pakistan, which are home to 25 percent of the children eligible to be vaccinated.
We strive to build lasting relationships to produce better health outcomes for all.
