SUMMARY

This project leads coordination and capacity-building activities to respond to the USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) IP needs and requests due to increasing pressures on their health supply chain systems. At global and country levels, these activities will contribute to a more harmonized response to emergencies in light of current strains on global health supply systems and challenges with timeliness, quality, and availability of PMC, especially during the early stages of an emergency, when poor quality and counterfeit medicines often flood the marketplace. The project will update all curricula with examples from the preparedness and acute stages of an emergency, focusing on lifesaving services supported by BHA during this phase, and we will more explicitly link this project to other BHA, US Government, and humanitarian donor investments on the ground. We will also support the humanitarian community (clusters, IPs, other interagency groups) to develop performance improvement guidance and begin to set standards that humanitarian responders can use to improve SCM and availability of lifesaving health commodities in emergency settings. The project will also build the capacity of supply chain managers to reduce the environmental impact of PMC operations in humanitarian settings, in alignment with working groups and global initiatives. This project will continuously embrace a person-centered and localized approach by focusing on how local organizations and supply chain managers working in the field can best be leveraged during a response.
