The USAID Integrated Health Systems Strengthening and Service Delivery (IHSS-SD) Activity is improving disease surveillance and response systems across Pakistan to better detect and respond to TB and emerging infectious disease outbreaks and strengthen global health security.
In partnership with the Government of Pakistan, the Activity is working at the national, provincial, and district levels to develop and implement Pakistan’s national action plan for global health security. This includes standardizing reporting mechanisms, strengthening district and provincial Disease Surveillance Response Units (DSRUs) across the country, establishing a digital health infrastructure and an integrated reporting system to support evidence-based decision-making, and training a cadre of rapid response teams to quickly and effectively identify, respond to, and stop emerging infectious disease outbreaks.
The Activity also works to stop the spread of TB in Pakistan. In 16 priority high-TB burden districts, the Activity provides resources and technical assistance to reach populations with the highest TB burden, including incarcerated individuals, to ensure they receive preventative and treatment care.
By strengthening existing health systems, the IHSS-SD Activity is helping the government of Pakistan move closer to achieving the Global Health Security Agenda vision of a world safe and secure from global health threats posed by infectious diseases.
The IHSS-SD Activity is a seven-year, USAID-supported initiative currently working in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
