SUMMARY

One of the significant components of the Health Systems Strengthening grant from GAVI to the Government of India (GoI) for improving immunization during 2017–2021 was the capacity building of vaccinators engaged in the immunization program. The GoI identified JSIPL as the nodal agency and lead partner to provide technical assistance for the RISE project.

Hence, RISE a learner-centric, interactive, self-paced, self-learning platform using technology through a mobile/ laptop was conceptualized. RISE developed by JSI under the stewardship of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) serves as a quick update of knowledge and skills of the health workers on routine immunization in India

RISE Value addition in Routine Immunization

  • Interactive E-Learning modules
  • Quiz & Games
  • Assessment & instant E-Certificate
  • Real-time monitoring through Dynamic Dashboard

After the encouraging outcome of the pilot phase, the Government of India has now decided on a phase-wise, pan-India scale-up of RISE to impart routine immunization training to all vaccinators throughout the country. The cost of the program will be partially borne through the National Health Mission – this is in line with the sustainability and institutionalization of RISE into the existing system of capacity building.

Looking ahead, the third phase of RISE scale-up (2024-2026) under the GAVI HSS-3 funding is poised to extend its reach to 236 districts across seven states (chosen as per the “zero-dose” criteria), reaching an estimated 100,000 health workers. Along with this, the RISE platform will also be leveraged through updated content for capacity building of medical officers engaged in routine immunization.
