The Ethiopia Urban Health Extension Program (UHEP) was launched in 2009 at the national level to create health equity by generating demand for essential health services through the provision of health information at the household level and access to services through referrals to health facilities.
This technical brief highlights Ethiopia's approach to urban health, including the capacity building of urban health professionals. JSI's Strengthening Ethiopia's Urban Health Program (SEUHP) worked with the Federal Ministry of Health to build the capacity and improve the working conditions of urban health extension professionals to successfully provide health services under Ethiopia's Urban Health Extension Program.
