HPV Vaccination in Malawi: Lessons Learned from JSI’s Experience Supporting Vaccine Introduction and Routinization

Malawi has one of the highest age-standardized incidence rates of cervical cancer in the world, with it accounting for 45 percent of all cancers in the country. In 2019-2021, JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. JSI), with funding from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, provided technical support to the country's Ministry of Health for the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine introduction. This brief describes lessons learned from JSI's experience supporting both the introduction and routinization of the HPV vaccine, and offers key considerations for other countries that are introducing the HPV vaccine.
