Improving Malaria Epidemic Surveillance in Uganda’s West Nile Through Health Worker Capacity Strengthening and Use of Reusable Malaria Surveillance Charts

Malaria remains a significant public health challenge in Uganda, with varying prevalence rates across high-burden regions: 22% in West Nile, 34% in Karamoja, 21% in Busoga, 13% in Lango, and 12% in Acholi. In West Nile, between July and September 2022, there was a significant deficiency in monitoring and tracking of malaria cases, with weekly epidemiological surveillance reporting (HMIS 033B) consistently at 78%, just below the national target of 82%. This abstract explores how the PMI Uganda Malaria Reduction Activity improved malaria surveillance. Published November 2024.
