Introducing and Scaling Up Immediate C-section Post-partum/Post-abortion IUD Insertion in Egypt

Egypt’s fertility rate increased from three births per woman in 2008 to three and a half births in 2014 while contraceptive prevalence decreased from 60% to 58% during the same time leading to a jump in the country’s population. To help the Egyptian government’s goal of curbing the birth rate, the USAID-funded Strengthening Egypt’s Family Planning Program (SEFPP) works closely with the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP)/Family Planning (FP) Sector on promoting long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) methods, specifically the intrauterine device (IUD) following delivery.
