Leveraging Behavioral Science for Enhanced Malaria Prevention: The Household Action Against Malaria Initiative in Uganda

Malaria is one of the leading causes of illness and death in Uganda, despite being both preventable and treatable. The PMI Uganda Malaria Reduction Activity (PMI MRA) raises awareness of malaria prevention among communities and households. PMI MRA utilizes the Household Action Against Malaria (HAAM) approach, adapted from the Ministry of Health's Mass Action Against Malaria initiative. HAAM builds agency to lead and own malaria prevention activities at the household level. The goal is to ensure households remain malaria-free for six consecutive months. This abstractThe HAAM approach demonstrates behavioral science's effectiveness in improving malaria prevention.
