Strengthening Capacity of U.S. Family Planning and Teen Pregnancy Prevention Providers

JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. is pleased to have been awarded three coordinated cooperative agreements to establish and operate the new National Training Center for Family Planning and Teen Pregnancy Prevention, with funding from the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Population Affairs (OPA) and Office on Women’s Health (OWH). The Training Center will provide high-quality training and technical assistance (TTA) using innovative, evidence-based techniques and content that will help grantees in the Title X Family Planning and Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) programs and their networks achieve their goals. As the Training Center, JSI will build on over 40 years of experience building the capacity of family planning, women’s health, and adolescent health providers and programs to deliver high-quality services.
Since 1978, JSI has been continuously funded by OPA to provide TTA to Title X service providers, most recently as the Family Planning National Training Center (FPNTC). From 2016-2020, JSI managed the FPNTC to build Title X grantee capacity to strengthen networks, with a particular focus on translating research into practice. JSI also brings expertise overseeing infertility prevention and maternal health TTA for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA); and providing TTA for adolescent health providers—including those working within the TPP Program—through the CDC, Office of Adolescent Pregnancy Programs, and community-based organizations.
The Training Center will support Title X and TPP grantees as they overcome the challenges of providing services of the highest quality while adapting to and thriving during this transformative period in health care, as well as meeting clients’ needs during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Our work will support OPA’s and OWH’s missions to promote health across the reproductive lifespan through innovative, evidence-based adolescent health and family planning programs, services, strategic partnerships, evaluation, and research.
As the new Training Center, we are thrilled to continue our tradition of supporting Title X for more than 40 years, as we integrate TTA that also focuses on adolescent health and preconception health, critical periods in the reproductive life span.” commented Reesa Webb, JSI’s Project Director.
